From Portugal comes to us for the debut of this new review furious black metallers Angrenost , entitled Planet Muscaria and published the September 23 by the label Code666 Records .

A metal desperate and self-destructive, genuine, a desperate cry from reality in a journey beyond the Gates of Hell. A black metal band whose lyrics are focused sull'astralità and the cosmos, recreating through them and the shrill cry scream of vocalist Pursan a dark and apocalyptic universe, whose atmospheres permeate our souls, making it pitch black. A music dominated by guitars and zanzarose lethal Enobolico and the massive and rapid drumming dell'anche bassist Erdsaf , but also a work of synthesizers (still played by Pursan) in relief and fundamental in ricrerare that carpet of sounds capable of carrying the 'listener in the universe of this formaizone. An album so perfectly thought out to enter the liking of fans, strengthened by good production sound effect surround , and a passion for this kind of music that really seems to flow in the veins of these inspired musicians . Good hour of listening varied and always convincing, for a debut of a certain thickness, without fear to recommend to lovers of dark and atmospheric black metal.

There are some labels that you know will never release anything crappy. So without any hesitations I take on any release that Code666 throw at me. I know that it will be of the highest quality and that I will enjoy it. I just gotta find out how much I will enjoy it. ANGRENOST is black metal. I get an older Norwegian feel to this. Like it was played by Gorgoroth or Gehenna back in the days. I gotta say that (and I think I’ve done so in the past too) that I prefer this to the bombast of Dimmu Borgir. There is a charm to keeping it simple. With that said this is not simple music. There is a depth to this that makes it interesting to listen to. Anders Ekdahl

The Portuguese existeren since 1995, but only now it creates the Black Metal Horde to present their debut. With the mysterious intro "INFERN (O)" wake them but now the interest in me, and even when the drums come from the Preserve, is "acIdShIVa" a powerful wrecking ball at top speed, the well using a light, atmospheric Key carpet in the background . In the slow passages Angrenost are some with electronic samples on the way to build the cold atmosphere before the banging noise is continued. "Intra Venus" mixed cool the electronic and partly already anthemic sounding Key passages and the fight for a damn good unit, while in addition the rage in "Satan album" strikingly bold in the mid tempo parts is pressed here Heavieness is super over. "ScOrpIOSaUrUS" is a malicious, gesampletes piece that is composed only of electronic elements and also "abSUMardUk" falls because a little out of the ordinary, because this is going to start as a classic Gloomy Gothic area. But Angrenost lay off half of the song and also powerful momentum to the ten-minute long mammoth piece "SchIzOphObOS" sounds like Dimmu Borgir's best times. Here is fierce, because sometimes bad, because sometimes mystical, simply well done. At first so slow that it would soon arrived in Doom slaps "ajNagraMMaTON" then still full pot of races and sometimes frantically and the sample spray again this mysticism. The Outro "ajNagraMMaTON" almost sounds like the intro and with this debut the Portuguese have really surprised me, so I'll gladly jump 8 out of 10.

n these gloomy Heimern is not the Poles, but Black Metal from Portugal of the same name. They were initially active from 1995 to 1999, and published in 1998, their only demo "Evil". Then it was not until closing time until 2010. For three years now we feilte on new songs and the result is now "Planet Muscara", their debut album, which contains a total of nine songs. Well, actually there are only seven, wrapped in each two-minute in-and outros. In between there are seven dark hymns to the listener, with eight to ten minutes, all excess length. Accordingly, the album is varied, which seems to be a concept album about the cosmos and astral themes, if you take takes a look at the song titles, which also uppercase and lowercase letters in all the words seem to play no role. But the music is tinged mystical. Fast, thread-thin guitars, clattering drums and a completely crazed black metal vocals popping a counter that does not shy away from whispering and melodic Mönschören. There is always something spooky keyboards in the background, which sometimes gives the music an ambient touch. Industrial effects also are scattered here and there. But mostly, there is quite clearly the frenzy. Compare Angrenost with another band, very hard for me. Everything sounds very original and all of a piece. Friends of Dodheimsgard, Arcturus, Dark Space, Deathspell Omega or Midnight Odyssey but this should do Inferno times.

"(...) Darkness, destitution and misery ... And despite all this, survived. Astral and cosmic issues around the lyrical structure - and the right atmosphere - extreme and chaotic playing reminiscent of something between Mayhem, Borknagar and Kovenant. Psychotic outbursts, rehab, psychiatric asylums, hallucinogens, space, drugs, police stations and hospitals. Paranoia! The "Planet Muscaria" has nothing to do with poetry and elegance but is the mirror of the above and decadent statements plasarismenos through chaotic and taxidiarikes compositions and very nice and similar audio production. Portuguese Black Metal. Everything you need for a Fall Market!"

Last note that the South-European Black Metal has made rapid appearance of the corresponding space and very significant, proportion of presence. One of the bands that impressed me this summer, they are Portuguese (Viana Do Castelo) Angrenost, we are dealing positively with the new and debut full length album, "Planet Muscaria". Pursan (lyrics, vocals, keyboards, effects, drum programming), will solve soon, several questions ....

Hello there! This is Aggelos from Greekrebels.gr. How are you?
Hi here! Greetings from Portugal! Still breathing so I guess I´m doing ok!

Well, tell us about how this whole band started…
The band started after meeting Ainvar in the early 90s. We quickly realized we had a common interest around BM and much other stuff. We shared the same lack of interest in society and the same attraction to Satan, darkness, misanthropy and nature, therefore joined forces in the same channel to create this dark entity called Angrenost, so we could express ourselves through extreme music.

What is the meaning of the word “Angrenost” and what do you feel about it?
The word was taken from “Lord of the Rings” and basically means Isengard. Apart from the name itself, what tipped the choice was the hidden meaning in the word. Angrenost symbolizes a closed circle with just one entrance, a high place and abstract, above men that we could explore and call our own.

How people reacted about your first EP, “Evil”?
Well… at the time, like today, I did not have much contact with the "scene" at all, basically, what I heard about "Evil" was only through Ainvar, who was living in Lisbon at the time, where the label was based. We recorded and mixed the demo in two afternoons without any conditions, yet received the attention of Andromeda Creations that, back then, was purposely created to launch Angrenost. Andromeda, Ainvar and I were pleased, and that was the only thing that really mattered to us. Due to the fact that we played a kind of “Scandinavian” way of BM, created quite a buzz over Portugal, where there were almost no BM bands at all…

Which where the reason that you paused the band for nearly 12 years?
I paused not, the band for 12 years… It just happened… was not planned! What happen is a very long story and impossible to summarize it all in few words. After the recording of Evil, we started writing the debut album, but by the same time, apart from music itself, I started walking a very destructive path towards the abyss. I was exploring paths increasingly extreme and actually living in a world increasingly psychotic and abstract… leaving the band was a natural act, a reflection of my sick state. By that time we had already written about 80% of the album, but it was never finished… had a long conversation with Ainvar and left. It was quite unexpected for him but he understood what was happening with me and accepted it…. The debut album never happened. The 12 years after, I went through almost everything and anything, ups and downs, living all sorts of chaos and destructive experiences. There´s so many thing in there, that I could write an entire book about it! During this period, I always felt the need to move my views into the paper; I never stopped writing really… Some of these notes gave rise to the letters in Planet Muscaria, which is all about transcendence through chaos and decay… “Lost to a different kind of reality” and just deal with it!

What made you re-start the band?
It was not a rational thing I guess, was rather a visceral need to bring back to Angrenost, all the negativity accumulated through all my experiences over the years. During this long period, I tried many times to bring Angrenost back, with Ainvar or some other guys here and there, but felt no real interest or will from them at all, so it never happened. Beside all this, I was still very sick on drugs, both mentally, physically and spiritually broken, so it was completely impossible to bring the fragments of the band back together. It was only after my rehab, almost five years ago, that I felt a real call from Angrenost… screaming at me, waiting to drink all the darkness and negativity of my past experiences. I was feeling strong and sober for the first time in eons, re-starting the band was something natural for me, something I always wanted to do without being able to, for all the reasons mentioned before. I had already written the entire album by myself, both lyrically and musically, so it was a question of finding the right people to materialize all the evil contained inside it.

Why isn’t Ainvar with you, in this new beginning?
For many reasons … After the break up, we took completely different paths, living in different places since then. We also shared lots of different opinions about the same subject “Angrenost”. We both had some issues with one another… many years passed without even talking with each other. To Ainvar, Angrenost is something that ended back in the late 90´s after the split; that´s fine by me, but I just don´t see it that way and never did! The reason behind such long hiatus is very complex, very personal, with lots of issues in between that transcended us both. Fact is that besides all the shit happening in my life at the time, the will to explore BM and Darkness with Angrenost never died! I know that Ainvar feels quite complete with his project, Storm Legion. In fact, the last SL album, "Desolation Angels", is a killer one, an incredible fucking piece of old-school black art, I must say! Everything´s fine between us now, yet, here I am without him...no regret!

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET ERDSAF AND ENOBOLICO…
I met E. during 2010, due to one of his many projects, Wavelength: Satan. He was developing a kind of BM sound with WLS that caught my attention completely, a very uncommon, eerie and industrial entity I must say! He knew about Angrenost from the past so for him to become guitarist in Angrenost was just a step. I admire him a lot for his creative integrity around BM, he´s a damn good guitarist so he was the right guy for the job. Erdsaf lives in my city and when we met I showed him the tracks of Planet Muscaria... well, I think I caught his attention! He´s a damn good musician and producer with a good studio, also shares great interest around BM and weird Electronics, so it was love at first sight! As with E. he also knew about my past in BM so it was very natural for us being together under the same seal of Angrenost. E. lives in the capital city in Lisbon while I and Erdsaf are living in a small city in the North of Portugal, many Kms. apart. We've only been the three together, twice, one during the three days of recordings and other time in the SWR Metalfest, where we also met V-Kaos, which makes a guest appearance in Planet Muscaria with some weird additional vocals. In one hand, the fact that we don´t see each other very often, made all the process much difficult but in the other hand, I believe It contributed a lot for the eerie aura surrounding Planet Muscaria.

What’s their part in the band? Are you happy with your collaboration?
We are not a “normal” band in a sense that we don´t use the traditional methods of doing things. In Planet Muscaria I composed almost all the stuff, so they joined the band when most of the structures were already done. I know it was very hard for them express their ideas in such a rigid platform, but in the end, all of us were very pleased with the end result. E. recorded all the guitars, while Erdsaf recorded the bass. All the arrangements, progs and sinths were made by me and Erdsaf in his studio, same thing for mixing and mastering. Yes, I am very pleased with their collaboration, entirely! Planet Muscaria is based on a personal journey, a very intimate one, for that reason I´m truly grateful to them both.

Congratulations for the “Planet Muscaria” album! Tell us about the whole idea of this release…
As said before, Planet Muscaria is all about transcendence trough chaos and decay, based not on books or philosophies, but on the true testimony of my chaotic and demented past. I think most of the people will not even get close to decode it fully. The main base is old-school BM but with electronics, industrial shit, sinth atmospheres and stuff. I want it to sound like the sound of my mind, and that I must say, is a damn fucking weird place to be! To describe abstraction and worlds dwelling in mind, traditional BM is not enough, at least for me, so was quite obvious the use of all this elements to take the album to another level. Planet Muscaria is dark, fast, violent, industrial and alien and at times, even psychedelic, meant to leave the listener totally astray and lost within the chaotic sound… I believe we achieved that flawlessly. Is not just an album is a whole experience, not for all ears, but a fucking eerie experience.

Where did you record it? Was a funny procedure, or not?
We recorded everything at Erdsaf´s studio (MuteSoundStudios). I still don´t understand what´s the “funny shit” around BM nowadays, weird as hell… but anyway, all process was made in different stages and for me at least, was fucking exhausting… after we finish the album I was completely drained… There was a time when Erdsaf and I were spending almost 12 hours per day on a daily bases, for almost 3 weeks without any stops. E. recorded all the guitars in just 3 days or less, in the end of the second day, his fingers were bleeding, I mean really bleeding, but he never stopped playing…I think that´s funny, don´t you think?

What inspired you in its’ creation?
I was inspired by the destructive ways of my being, which even these days I don´t fully understand. When I was younger I was very attracted in exploring the dark side of mind but BM didn´t satisfied all my needs, drugs filled that gap. When you decide to explore the world of drugs, you discover a lot of things within you that you never thought possible to exist. Due to drug addiction I saw the sides of myself and society that no one wants to see. You start seeing the human nature with different eyes... the animal that dwells within man... I also experienced many aspects of the invisible world, and I still wonder about the force that drives man to self-destruction. Even the most normal person has those things inside, the only difference is that few are the ones who accept to explore the Darkness without fears or restrictions, most of the people pretend that those things don´t exist at all. The great inspiration behind the album, is the Force I was talking about.. It has many names, many faces but no one really knows who or what it is!

Do you usually like to use effects, synths, programming, in your songs?
Yes, the base of all structure is old-school BM but we use all the stuff we can to make the sound more eerie, industrial and atmospheric. We like the electronic feel of it, so the good use of electronic elements in Angrenost is actually essential... it would be practically impossible to achieve the sound of Planet Muscaria without the use of those tools.

What are you thinking about the album, now that it’s finished?
We wanted the perfect fusion between old-school BM and industrial/alien soundscapes; I believe we achieved that flawlessly! Truth is that we made the album we wanted and there´s really nothing I would change in it. The challenge with the album was to use electronics but without making it sound over-produced. Above all we wanted a BM album so it should sound raw and dirty and that´s what we did with it.

Any live plans? Why which band, would you like to play live?
No, we don't have any live plans, now and in near future and I believe that will never happen, but, who knows? Maybe Abigor, Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega and Burzum would do just fine!

Do you have any musicians/heroes, that “made” you who you are know?
It may sound like a cliché but no, I really don´t have any heroes, we´re all made of the same flesh! There´s lot of people out there I admire but that's just it. Being a vocalist, I can share with you that I truly admire what Aldrahn did in the past with Dodheimsgard... I miss his vocals and I consider one of the most important losses among many other losses in the BM scene, in the past decade.

Thanks for everything!

Roel de Haan : Angrenost is a Portuguese black metal band that after years of absence reports back at the front with a full-length album called Planet Muscaria. Years of misery (drugs, psychological problems, etc.) is reflected on this album. Specifically, this means furious black metal played fast with a symphonic character and slight industrial undertones. Stylistically it is somewhere at the intersection of Sirius and Darkspace. The raw emotion and unbridled aggression are nicely balanced with the symphonic melodic base, showing sincerity and intelligence. A must for fans of symphonic black metal with some more depth than usual.

One of the first impressions of any band is from the logo, the album cover and the song names. Angrenost seem to be doing it all right. A spidery if slightly too legible logo and a captivatingly cold album cover. Even the song names fit the bill; apart from one distinct difference to most albums… they appear to have had a battle with the caps lock. From the title, PLANET MUSCARIA to the nine tracks on the album, including SaTaNlOgOS and )O(NrefNI, the seemingly random use of caps are not fully explained by the band. Beginning in 1995 with a two-man lineup, Pursan and Ainvar, this twosome released the EP Evil before breaking up. Seventeen years later Pursan is back with new accompaniment and a full-length album to unleash on the world.

Fifteen years in the making has obviously done a lot for this album and its writer. Planet Muscaria is music of demons. Cold, unrelenting, destructive hatred wrapped in sixty-three minutes of violent black metal. Pursans vocals are heavily reminiscent of the earlier works of Dimmu Borgir, particularly on INTraVeNUS, cutting in with harshly spoken passages like voices rising out of the abyss, calling to the listener. The words are on the edge of understand, leaving the listener grasping as moments of realization before dropping back into an unintelligible mass.

The music is also not too dissimilar either. Violent blasting beats combined with dark symphonic backing. The real development in this album occurs in slower moments, the calm in the center of the madness. Hazy passages with riffs rising and falling, half heard ideas permeating the confusion before dropping back out. At it’s heart this is through and through orthodox black metal, there isn’t much happening here that hasn’t happened a thousand times before, and they are stuck walking in the footsteps of greater bands. Despite this, the album does have a fresh sound, and every turn feels like a freshly birthed and honest twist in their journey through each song.

Neatly placed between the opening track INferN(O) and closing on )O(NrefNI, these parallel compositions form edges, paths in and out of the madness of the album. The whole thing comes together to form a journey, a passageway through the mind: its flaws and its demons. Despite being divided into tracks, this album should not be separated; its impact comes through taking it as a whole entity.

This is an album of many levels, many layers that pass through each other, struggling for dominance. This ensures it is no background album; it commands attention from start to finish, demanding each piece be heard. It’s hard when it comes to traditional orthodox black metal to make yourself stand out from the hoards of other bands on the scene struggling for the same attention, but there’s something about this band that doesn’t ask for it, more demands it. We’ve waited fifteen years for the follow up to Evil, but after Planet Muscaria we can only pray we don’t have to wait another fifteen more.

As aNgreNOST was started in 1995 by the two musicians Pursan and Ainvar, it was only for a single EP before the two went their separate ways. In 2010, restarted Pursan band with bassist and guitarist Erdsaf Enobolico, and they have released their first joint album.

As Pursan stands for vocals and electronic elements are no drummer in the herd; instead used drum machines. It is not an optional element in the band's sound, the musical expression is entirely mechanical and unfriendly. As the base serves traditionally built Black Metal of the really tough cut of sorts with fierce brutality, and they had three Portuguese left it at that, had Planet muscaria been an album of the sort that sorts all Black-wannabe's from. But it goes a step further, and through lots of electronic items, ranging from a light blanket of atmospheric keyboards distorted vocals and spoken segments, get the Black music an extra layer that makes the numbers pretty extreme. It seems like concentrated bile on CD when Pursan hisses texts out, and through the electronic action comes it sound strange and inhuman.

In flashes similar Angrenost a band like CHD, they're just not quite as exciting and experimental as the Dutch. But they come close in terms of rigor, which is exactly what makes "Planet muscaria" worth to try - the album is unkind and hateful in a way that gives points in my book.

Although, overall, there are many things we can learn about the Portuguese aNgreNOST (Tolkien enthusiasts will recognize the name of a so called the tower of Saruman in the language of the Elves), however the short story is interesting. This is because one can reasonably wonder if the music of Portuguese would actually take this form if they had scrapped a few years after its foundation in 1995, at which time the second wave of Black Metal zenith.

If you listen to their first single release so far, the demo "Evil" came out in 1998, we find some similarities with their first full album, released a few days ago, the demo but clearly moving into more typical Black Metal rhythms. The "Planet Musicaria", on the other hand, honors his name, after extensive use keyboards and various effect, but the icy riffs, creating a cosmic music that travels in vast and cold universe. There are many places that the music of Portuguese followed the typical footsteps of Orthodox Black Metal, with dark atmosphere, terrible tantrums quickly, with blast beats, fast double bass drums and guitar and high pitched vocals, but it certainly does not stop here. This is because aNgreNOST really create a great atmosphere with their melodies, sometimes tending towards dark ambient, other times to the industrial, while the different effect that sound, but also the different sounds, and give a soft touches Noise. And all this under the almost constant presence of keyboards, which are mainly responsible for the secular nature of the music, which when heard in the slow parts of the disc, along with the different effect and sounds create a captivating atmosphere that enchants and hypnotizes (just listen to "Scorpiosaurus"). Also, use multiple voice (beyond high pitched), such as deep, sometimes simply recite, but also those that remind chanting, performing the songs and a mystic character.

The 63 minutes of the disc, but the length of most disc tracks, give the opportunity to the Portuguese to experiment with music and create nice effects, either with respect to pure Black Metal points either on the slowest locations where the atmosphere is made with all the above items are really excellent. Still, not as clean production, helps create chaotic melodies, which is of course essential in this cold and cosmic journey. I do not know if the disc will satisfy the follower of pure Black Metal, but will satisfy the follower of Black Metal that is more open musical horizons. We were making so the aNgreNOST such a disk had they not dissolve in the late 90s; Who knows The truth, however, is that the "Planet Musicaria" is a very nice record, which although requires the listener's attention, but it repays and attention to the above.

Review Eslovaca (Mortem Zine)
8,5/10

I feel that publishing Code666 Records holds (with a few exceptions weaker) in its stable of excellent horses themselves. About the devil himself whispering to people in the company names of those who stand for attention. The case Angrenost although I got quite random, but maybe not so surprisingly - I trusted the Publisher menu. And expectations are (re) filled.

Long forgotten band from Portugal. which in 1998 released a single demo tape "Evil", it probably nobody considered it relevant to build the pedestal formations capable shuffle cards in the current black metal events. Finally, it is not me initially did not want to believe. Only when I listened to the content of their debut album, I had to admit that this combo definitely be several reasons for the rise extinct embers. Their work is influenced period, when Norwegians began "arras" and the world of discharging one surprise after another - for all examples appoint at least "IX Equilibrium", "Rebel Extravaganza" and "666 International". All this is bound to feel the "Planet Muscaria" to the top of the left Portuguese French inspired hordes of battered reputation and thirdly forget to dig into the wells the better modernists of the British Isles and Austria. To the beginning of the dizzy, would rather invite you to sit ruined stone observatory, lined engravings obscure constellation. He purported to be dizzy with you into new dimensions ...

Angrenost are masters of their own planet on which to put our attempt to smuggle something. Do not use any cheap sci-fi scenery, one big space ship, where narwhale all the rage, rebellion and nihilism of his mysterious dimension. Musk black holes mainly shows frantic wheezing, buchotom and various grunts. Effects are a real decoration of the plate. Right next to the guitars and vocals to them is irreplaceable, so certainly we do not honor the classic black metal. Use them acquires music more frightening proportions and can not overlook the beautiful perversity. Synthesizers serving chief torturer Pursano and in the same breath it should be added that the devastating trend also has its dehumanization vocals. Really scary declamation comes from the mouth of the "lunatics", fortunately have very far to electro-robotic fashion fads. Guitar work is based on hip guy named Enobolico in his case as well there is no such shoddy or half power. This guy is in the hands of the cruel sound weapon, from which over 63 minutes fits very little inaccurate shots. The drum machine and Bass party is masterfully old Erdsaf.

As a whole this album works very compact and I find it terribly on a few dead spots. Predominates fast pace, occasionally tempered by slower seems like. the beads' abSUMarduk "where i hear a slight hint citovejšieho shading. Otherwise, expect mostly ruthless and misanthropic BM with Show riffs, very harsh sound and atmosphere, what tend to conjure up associations especially, loving cosmology and ephemeral (space) civilization. Ideas will definitely not spare, almost every song is something unique and has an irresistible charm. This hilarious trio is for me one of the biggest surprises of this year, because then you just look at the name "acIdShiVa" and I'm not talking about feelings, which I had never heard it. I'm a fan slower and more sophisticated procedures, but if Angrenost I am forced to make an exception. Their music is tremendously fast, but technically it is revised at a very high level. And since I too am one of those who mourn for unmatched cult of the Emperor, forgive you look for them other "cosmic" compensation, which will provide a similar experience to me, as I lurk in the souls for Ihsahnovej lot. Moreover, the Portuguese themselves have their own charm.

On his return home planet through outra ") O (NrefNI" and we have no other option, just observing telescope, when the distant nebulae appear next to their majestic invasion. For a crew of three would not be a problem in another dimension collect fresh ideas. Indeed , after all, in such a vast space of their lies enough to ship us back Angrenost again brought cold and ruthless dehumanization deep space.

Code666) Mysterious. Project ancient, dating back to the late 90s. Only one demo product. Black metal, sure, but its origins are unusual: Portugal. Self-destructive behavior, obscure things, unknown things, and after that demo project disappears. Modern times: Angrenost (or "Angrenost") comes back to life. It was a duo, now a trio. Three gloomy characters, victims of self-destruction,imprisoned in their own inner suffering. Beings that are passed into the tunnel the most decadent, miserable, oppressive of human life. Return. Reborn, and celebrate their decline with abundant this time of death and suffering, depravity and condemnation. "Planet Muscaria" is dope. Abuse. Addiction. Inner death. "Planet Muscaria" is a concept album that tells of obscenity with real lives, lives closer to the last threshold to the splendor. Black metal dirty, sung in a monstrous, bordering on suffocation. Riff powerful falsely made bright by a clever use of keyboards and perverse, often present but never dominant. The imposing martial "SchIzOphObOS." Distressing "ScOrpIOSaUrUS." Devastating to the psyche of the alternation between blast beats and reflective phases of "acIdShIVa." Pure hymn to evil with "SaTaNlOgOS", straddling expressed hatred and worship the same. An unknown band that aims with something extreme, that exudes evil, hatred, devastation. Played in an optimal manner, with perfect keyboards, bass lines able to damn the soul, "Planet Muscaria" is absolutely overwhelming. The anthem perfect for a death punctuated by emotional suffering.

Review Holandesa

Portugal 1995. Singer and songwriter Pursan targets with Ainvar aNgreNOST on. The concept behind the band is blacker than black. It is Black Metal with an overdose of hatred against society and against himself. In 1997, they bring the EP ' Evil ', which is well appreciated by the public. However, shortly after, the fundamentally wrong with Pursan. He left the band in 1998 and sinks into a murky pool of extremely self-destructive behavior.

12 Years later blows himself and Pursan aNgreNOST a second breath, and he draws Erdsaf on drums and bass, and the mysterious 'E.' guitar work to rise to. What binds the three is the wavelength at which they sit: Satan. ' Planet muscaria 'is the bad trip arising therefrom has flowed: the first full CD aNgreNOST .

Content is' Planet muscaria "an autobiography. The CD brings together the experiences of Pursan and his urge to the limit to drive, mind and body literally to death. His suicide attempts, extreme abuse of various forms of hard drugs, his psychotic state of mind, but also the light of the withdrawal clinics, psychiatries, hospitals and police cells. In that respect we have 'our Planet muscaria 'no illusions: it is not about fantasies or poetic moods. It is about the pain of life in its most black form, as dark as it can be in a body that is still breathing. To the Gates of Hell and beyond.

With this knowledge in mind, we notice especially the Industrial side of the plate. We discern keyboards, special effects and most importantly, a lot of voice distortion, either sung or narrative. However is the lineup of the band not mention someone keys or sound engineering. The different tracks - similar to the band name spelled in a very unique way, surprise us to say the least, with a bizarre mix of Black Metal and Cosmic Dark Matter. The heavily distorted and doubled vocals, the monotonous input from the keyboard and the abundant presence of persistent bass distort reality and throw us somewhere in the middle of a science fiction movie where the close encounter is near a terrifying alien. At the same time we are reminded by the complaining guitars, heavy bass and drums sometimes hard to follow. Our own hell Both halves blend wonderfully well to a dreary whole, which inevitably draws us into the Black Hole. aNgreNOST stays true to the grim Death Metal enriched atmosphere but with the right elements to Lord Satan to appear encouraging. it A unique and innovative fusion of metal and industrial.

Yes, 'Planet muscaria 'is an album that manages the soul to take in tow and dispose of the physical body. We think to be dealing with one of the more important releases of the year in this innovative genre here. But ... it's the kind of record that a warning label on the shelves of the cdwinkel should appear "not labile spirits. This is not a CD, candlelit play. Overnight Problems guaranteed.

Entrevista para a Spirit of Metal...

Imagem

Formato original em inglês:

Hi Pursan, how are you ? Could you explain us the reasons why you put an end to the band in 98 and sum up these long erratic years between Evil and Planet Muscaria? What did you do as a person and as an artist during these dark years? How are you feeling now, what are the new goals of the band, and what are the differences between the previous band and the current one?
Greetings… huge thunderstorm outside and listen to some good old music, everything´s fine. So many questions, so let´s see… The reason for the 98´s collapse is very long, complex and personal, it happened mainly due to the fact that, for many reasons, I was in a very weird and psychotic state. At that time, I felt that if I kept involved with Angrenost, something really bad could happen at any time, and let´s keep it like that. Well, between Evil and Planet Muscaria, many things happened and many of those things were the source of inspiration to the creation of Planet Muscaria which revolves around drug addiction, psychotic worlds and all the necessary mechanisms needed to transcend and escape from the whirlpool of demons and labyrinths, if you don´t want to end up dead or worse than that. To me, I cannot draw the line, dividing art from real life… my life was so “rich”, twisted and out of the ordinary that the most honest thing to say is that, life and art were the same thing, difficult to explain, but the “so called artist” was not a fictional character or based on an alter ego, but a real person… all these odd experiences are the substances of Planet Muscaria, based on reality, not on fiction or fantasies. There are no goals for the band, Angrenost is just a channel to express negativity and darkness through sound, a way to achieve catharsis through music. The band´s DNA remains the same, the records are different, that´s the best way to put it. Both Evil as Planet are genuine… Evil is about evil, Muscaria is about muscaria. I don´t give a shit about “bands” the only thing I really care related to music are the albums… If I don´t keep things like that, I can assure you that I will almost hate every band, so few are the ones that remain honest to themselves and invulnerable to exterior forces.

Should we consider Angrenost as a real band now or simply as a way to sporadically express the feelings turning down your soul at some very intense moments? Should we expect another hibernation or is Angrenost definitely starring at the future?
It depends… if you consider most bands out there real bands, then I must say that we are not at all a real band... Angrenost is not inspired by empty nonsense so I guess already answered to your question… to create just some fancy bullshit is better for one to stay still, however, each knows himself. I am only able to create something truthful if I feel a deep and intense call within myself, otherwise, I cannot create or force it to happen, that’s who I am, period. I couldn’t care less about the band´s future, I try to live in the now, and now, I´m in the process of writing the lyrics for the next recording, which, I hope, will have nothing to do with Planet Muscaria. We´re not and don´t want to be part of the circus, thank you.

I guess that you have been recording some tracks that were obsessing your insane mind during the 15 years separating Evil from Planet Muscaria. Do you intend to use these tracks for some future records or do you wish Angrenost to restart from a totally new musical basis?
The material from those years gave form to Planet Muscaria; the old stuff is now useless. I think any album should act independently and as a whole, we are now gathering the fragments for the next album which should gain life of its own in the near future… different flame, different ash, otherwise it will be nonsense.

Consequently, do you already have some new material recorded for a new album, and if yes, should we expect the sequel of Planet Muscaria or for something different?
No, you should not expect nothing like a sequel of Planet Muscaria…at all. The new material is being written on a total different basis. For the next record, I will be more focused on the lyrics and concept only. The Planet Muscaria composition was based on sinths and electronics, the next album, musically speaking, composition will be raised from the guitars, so Enobólico will be the main songwriter, generally speaking. We´re thinking about using a real drummer also, so we´ll see what happens. Expect nothing like Planet Muscaria… expect something much more primitive, raw and organic.

Is Angrenost your own musical conception, your field of experimentation, are you the only songwriter in the band or do your fellows have some rights about the music too?
In Planet Muscaria almost everything was created by me but I am not saying they haven´t played a big role in the album, on the contrary, without the three lines joining the same triangle, Planet Muscaria wouldn´t be possible to achieve. I´m just simply saying that all the primal structures of the songs were written long time before I met Erdsaf and Enobólico, when they joined the band I already had a very clear image about how the album should sound like. For obvious reasons I was very inquisitor during the process, but they both knew from the beginning what to expect from me and the Muscaria process. For the next album, each one of us will play an equal role in the creative process.

Do you consider music and art in general as a catharsis, a kind of helpful filter through which you can shrug off all your hates and frustrations in order to recover an healthy mental balance, or, to the contrary, do you use Angrenost as a way to spread your hatred, to corrupt as much people as you can and make the crowd share your pain?
The world doesn´t need any more corruption from me, he corrupts himself. Mankind is the perfect metaphor for this… a giant entity ignorantly addicted to self-flagellation, without notion of it. Music for me is a selfish thing and I use it as a tool for personal reasons that only concern to me. If catharsis is a method of purification, then yes, I can say that some of those processes happen during the processes of creation, nevertheless I write just because I feel the need to do so in a visceral fashion… what people feel when listening to our music is not a variable in Angrenost equation, on the contrary, both as artists as individuals, we try to stay as distant as we can from all those kinds of shit. One thing I know for sure, hatred is the main core of BM and at least for me still remains as its true foundation and essence.

What do you try to give or to destroy through Planet Muscaria?
That subject is so vast and complex that is hard to give you a straight answer. When something is destroyed, actually you´re just giving birth to some other new thing or different form… so nothing can be destroyed, just transformed. With my own experiences, I managed to touch many weird and incomprehensible sides of existence, logic plays no important role in it, Planet Muscaria is just an empirical process of self-metamorphosis through chaos, an inner process where the human being struggles to escape fractal Inferno and the million forms of its demons, not metaphorically speaking but a real first person experience. The longer one stays in hell without dying or giving up to the demons, the stronger and wiser one will be after transcending the ethereal fires of Satan. The battle for catharsis is fierce but only loses the one who abandons the combat.

Planet Muscaria is a very intense album we are living actively by listening to it. Track after track, our senses are overwhelmed and tons of pictures are merging in front of our eyes. Can you speak about the album’s composition process? In which state of mind did you create these musical pieces, and how did you manage to translate so sincerely the sensations that were possessing your flesh and your soul?
Musically, I guess that Planet Muscaria is far ahead of its time, while in its main core sounds like the early 90´s Black Metal, a time where artists really had something to say… not like this sad days where bands just want to join the club or to sound like this or that. Planet Muscaria has an alien aura surrounding him, mainly because in its essence it represents the translation or materialization of abstract visions experienced during years of personal and absolute hell. Those worlds that I try to describe with Planet Muscaria were absolutely alien and abstract to me, so the result was a very intense and even psychedelic sound… All the tracks were made during or after extreme episodes, totally on a twisted state of mind, where simply had a visceral need to describe and understand all those abstract dimensions, dwelling inside and outside of my haunted being. In Angrenost´s music I talk about psychosis, suicide, alien voices, misery, addiction, death and so on and so forth, if one senses sincerity in our music is simply because that´s what Planet Muscaria really is... real and genuine as fuck. There is a great difference between Van Gog and Dali, they´re both geniuses technically but far apart from each other as regards the purity of inspiration and integrity of "work". In Planet Muscaria we are just being real and honest to ourselves leaving all the crap and bullshit aside.

In which special conditions would you advice the listeners to enjoy Planet Muscaria in order to get all the best from it?
Well… I´m not saying one should, but in an altered state of mind of course, alone in a dark and unpleasant environment. A balanced person that never experienced such an extreme way of life will only contemplate Planet Muscaria from a philosophic or aesthetic point of view. Only a person that has been through absolute hell will understand it, and I believe that even then, one will not be able to decode it fully. This is my personal view but, each knows himself.

Angrenost seems influenced by bands such as Darkspace or Spektr. Is that something aware and accepted? Except your personal extreme life experiences, which musical and non-musical pieces of art influenced the creation of Planet Muscaria?
That´s pure coincidence… When I created the lyrics and the primordial musical foundations for Planet Muscaria, I guess those bands didn´t even existed, besides that, concerning Black Metal, I mainly listen to the old-school stuff. To be honest, I can´t even see what´s the similarity between Angrenost and those bands. Maybe you´re saying that just because we´re bands breathing from the same air, but that’s all… I guess media are saying that because, as with Angrenost, they´re both far ahead of its time, with a specific DNA. I discovered those two bands very recently but I respect them both entirely... mind of their own.

Planet Muscaria flirts at many occasions with a cold, spatial and frightening ambient music. Did you ever thought about giving birth to a pure ambient musical project? Are black metal and ambiant two indivisible parts from Angrenosts schizophrenic personality? Is this musical entity enough to express all your feelings and to explore all musical ways you want to, or could a parallel project emerge someday, more focused on the epic and ambient side of your music?
Yes… actually me and Erdsaf started a new project called (O)ST, with a completely different approach from BM and exploring new fields of experimentation, a mix between analog electronics and ethnic soundscapes. It has nothing to do with Black Metal. We expect to complete the album, which shall be called “Mitochondrial Machine”, by the end of the year and we´ll see what happens next. In Planet Muscaria, BM and ambient were two indivisible parts of the same entity, but for the next Angrenost´s album we´ll turn closer to the source and Black Metal roots. Expect a much more primitive and organic form of Black Metal, closer to the school of the early 90´s. Like I said before, we do what we want to do, and now, as I´m writing on more occult subjects, primitive and raw BM is the right way to translate all that atmosphere.

As Angrenost’s music is very sensitive and visual, do you intend to release some other medium to make Planet Muscaria’s musical experience even deeper and stronger, like a movie, some video-clips, paintings or a book?
I personally would like to do something with Angrenost on that basis, but just to do some crappy nonsense bullshit is better for one to stay still. We don´t have the money or time to do it properly so, at least for now, that´s completely out of the question. I have plans to write a book about my life in the future but it will be probably anonymous so it will not be directly linked to Planet Muscaria or Angrenost. I have some paintings in acrylics from the past but many years have passed without doing anything on that field… Money is the only common god that we are all forced to worship… myself and Angrenost are no exception.

Do you intend to have some live dates to promote Planet Muscaria?
No.

This interview is almost over, thanks a lot for your answers. Do you have a last thing to share to Spirit of Metal readers and to all people who would discover Angrenost through this interview?
Grateful for the interview and to Spirit of Metal for the interest in Angrenost! Earth is a shithole but one heck of a ride. NEVER STOP THE MADNESS!
