It's probably been said before, but Textures could not have picked a more fitting moniker, as everything about Silhouettes is layered with depth, intricacy, dynamism and scope. Moments will remind you of Isis, Meshuggah, Earthtone9, Dillinger Escape Plan and more, though delivered in an approach that is clearly their own. On this third album, there are tracks like 'Messengers' that allow space to breathe, only for you to have that breath taken away by the sheer scale of 'To Erase A Lifetime'. Eric Kalsbeek sings more, his voice moulding to whatever shape each song requires. This isn't to indicate Textures have become any less destructive – opener 'Old Days Born Anew' is a prime example of their command of force and elegance, with pummelling riffs but a soaring chorus and excellent layering that make this a towering example of why 'progressive' doesn't have to be associated with beards and silly concepts.

There's a great deal going on, yet it's not as outwardly technical as previous releases – so doesn't seem complicated – which should earn them a host of new fans, whilst retaining the intelligence and devastating power that established their fanbase. From the soaring, uplifting glory of 'Awake' to the pummelling brutality of 'Laments Of An Icarus', there's simply too much to talk about – the best advice we can give is to obtain Silhouettes and start talking about Textures yourselves. That is, once you've regained the power of speech.
