History:
Love/Hate is a guitar oriented blues based hard rock band that successfully incorporated elements of psychedelic, punk and funk into their brand of music. Labeled themselves the "stoopidist band in the world", while the Los Angeles media dubbed them the "most important local band since Guns N'Roses".
Originally formed in L.A. by high school friends Jon E. Love (guitar), Skid Rose (bass) and Joey Gold (drums) and known as Data Clan, an 80s new wave band. Shortly after the addition of vocalist Jizzy Pearl, they changed the band's name as well as musical direction. In 1988 they finally received a major label and two years later released their debut album. They toured behind AC/DC and became a major hit in the UK, but success in America eluded them. By late 1992 they had lost their label deal as well as Love.
The band recruited guitarist Darren Housholder and forged ahead with an independent record label. Even with the return of Love in 1994 the band was falling apart due to infighting. Pearl left half way through the recording of Livin' Off Layla, and BulletBoys front man Marq Torien was brought in to finish the album's vocal tracks. Pearl went on to front L.A. Guns for a short period of time before landing the front man slot in Ratt in early 2000. The band just could never break open in America, but to this day they have a strong and loyal following in Europe.
The Love/Hate moniker continues to be revived for the occasional live gig, especially in Europe, with varying line-ups.
