History:
For a short time, Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction epitomized the genre of sleaze metal with their long greasy hair, black leather, outrageous personalities, drugs, and songs about sex and debauchery. They quickly took Europe by storm in the late 80's, but disappeared from the spotlight as quickly as they had appeared.
The band was the brainchild of one Mark Manning who would assume the identity of Zodiac Mindwarp. The Love Reaction was rounded out by Jimmy Cauty (guitar), Kid Chaos (bass) and Boom Boom Kaboomski (drums), however Cauty and Kaboomski were replaced by Cobalt Stargazer and Slam Thunderhide for the debut album. It wasn't until 1988 that the band broke out. Kid Chaos had left to become Haggis in The Cult (and later form The Four Horsemen) with Thrash D Garbage taking over bass and a second guitarist in Flash Bastard was added. Tattooed Beat Messiah became Mindwarp's crowning achievement, hitting the Top 20 on the European charts, and making minor waves in America.
However it had all come to soon and record advances were now being used mostly on drugs and alcohol. By the time the third album was released, without Bastard and with Suzy X on bass, the groups' momentum and the majority of their fans had been lost.
In 1993 Robbie Vom replaced Thunderhide on the drums, and the new albums weren't even getting released worldwide. In 1994 the Love Reaction moniker was put to rest to avoid a legal battle with Suzy X who had been ousted for Tex Diablo on One More Knife. Music took a back seat as Manning began working on fiction novels. Mindwarp's biggest success could in fact be his co-writing credit on Alice Cooper's "Feed My Frankenstein" from the popular Wayne's World soundtrack.
Zodiac Mindwarp came roaring back in 2002 with the release of a killer new album (and new bassist Kev Reverb) as well as an outrageous autobiography appropriately titled Fucked By Rock. 2005's Rock Savage included yet another new bassist in Jack Shitt and it seems like the band simply refuses to go away. Today their albums are hard to find, but a must have, and classics in the sleaze metal genre.
