In advance of the final recordings of Emperor due out April 2009 comes this limited collectors Gold edition 7" vinyl containing 2 of the bands greatest tracks recorded live at Inferno.




Candlelight Records confirms the completion of the final recordings from black metal legends Emperor. Titled Live Inferno, the special live series features various releases recorded/filmed during the bands sold out 2005-2007 reunion performances. Several formats will be available including a 2cd/slip case with 16-page booklet, a limited edition box featuring 2 cds & dvd with an enhanced 24 page booklet, a single dvd, and two limited edition double-vinyl gatefold sets. April 16 is set as the European release date for the series. The audio aspect of the Live Inferno series features exclusive recordings from the bands headlining performances at Norways Inferno Festival and Germanys Wacken Open Air Festival. Each recording will be pressed as individual double-vinyl sets; the first pressing limited to 1000 on black vinyl with any additional pressings in varied colors selected by the band. A special gold-vinyl seven-inch limited to 2000 titled Thus Spake the Nightspirit (featuring a live rendition of the bands famed song from the album Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk with a live recording of Inno A Satana from the album bands popular In the Nightside Eclipse album on the b-side) will be pressed and released via the labels official webstores beginning February 16.

EMPEROR's Live Inferno Confirmed For Worldwide Release

Candlelight Records confirms the completion of the final recordings from black metal legends Emperor. The video portion, titled Live at Wacken Open Air 2006 - A Night of Emperial Wrath, has a running time of 70-minutes and includes footage professionally filmed at the Wacken Open Air Festival with additional on-stage and exclusive backstage footage filmed and compiled by the band. “It looks like these releases will be the final nail in the coffin for Emperor,” says guitarist Samoth. “They are a testimony of the live reunion that took Emperor to even new heights; unique events like Wacken where Emperor headlined in front of 60 000 people. We had a great run of shows and feel lucky that we were able to come back even bigger and perform songs from our complete catalogue for a lot of dedicated fans old and new. There will be several cool formats and limited editions coming that should be a nice treat for the fans and a worthy representation of the Emperor legacy. Emperor is dead, long live the Emperor!”

WATAIN ON FIRE



On last Saturday, December 6th, WATAIN performed a special
show in Uppsala, Sweden to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band. As
expected, the show was somewhat special... Read the band's statement and cry if
you were not there!

"And so it's done! 10 years of darkness and death have
passed and the commemoration ceremony became just as legendary and grandiose as
we had intended. Apart from a sold-out show, a loud and hungry audience and the
improved stage-show, the ending of it all also managed to become memorable. Just
at the very end of the song "Casus Luciferi" we had lightened two bowls of
gasoline on stage, in which E. threw a rather explosive, home-made mix of
sulphur and gunpowder. The effect was just as intended - the flames rose to
twice their size for some seconds, in honor of the bringer of the forbidden
light of chaos.

"The venue owners had been informed earlier about the fiery
nature of the show and were supposed to turn the fire alarms off just before it
begun. Apparently this had been forgotten and consequently the alarm went off.
Some security device blacked out the electricity, the fire department stormed in
and evacuated the place, and thus the concert was over. Truly an ending in fire!
Fortunately this happened far into the setlist, and only two more songs remained
- "Stellarvore" and "On Horns Impaled". These songs will now lay waiting in
restless slumber, until the cursed graves open again...

"Watain raise their blood filled chalices to all the
supportive devotees that came to celebrate with us, some who travelled as far as
from Australia, UK, Germany, France and USA. Your support that night and through
the past 10 years has been invaluable, and we look forward to show you that this
has only been the beginning... May the Gods of Darkness look with favour upon
you in their time that is to come!"

Italian Heavy Metal Singer Stabs Guitarist For 'Fluffing' Riff, Faces Attempted Murder Charges - Dec. 10, 2008

According to The Guestlist and various Italian media reports, 19-year-old Italian heavy metal singer Cristina Balzano (pictured below) has been arrested for stabbing the guitarist in her band SOUL CRY after he fluffed a guitar riff.

Balzano allegedly stabbed the 16-year-old guitarist for hitting the wrong notes during a rehearsal session after accusing him of "playing badly."

Balzano has now been charged by Genovese police for attempted murder.

We are aware of the fact that german mailorder/label PERVERTED TASTE (www. pervertedtaste. de / www. pervertedtaste. com) is selling (and most probably also producing) bootleg FT merchandise. In particular, all the products with the white FT logo on front and nothing on back are bootlegs, since nor the band or previous labels have printed that kind of shirt. In other words, a T-Shirt/Longsleeve/Hoodie/Girlie with FT white logo on front and nothing on back doesn't exist at all, and it's a bootleg. This means that if you buy one of these, you're only damaging the band and not supporting it.
This situation goes on since years, and the band already sent a mail some time ago to Perverted Taste to clear up the controversy, but no reply from that label arrived, so let's boycott those assholes once and for all!!

Head-bangers, beware of injury, rocker scientists warn

Because it's the first thing you consider when you go to a heavy-metal concert, we just thought you should know: Head-banging can be hazardous to your health.

That's right — depending on the tempo of the music and the range of motion of your noggin, you could be looking at a head or neck injury, Australian researchers report in today's British Medical Journal.

Andrew McIntosh, an associate professor of biomechanics at the School of Risk and Safety Sciences as the University of New South Wales, and his research assistant, Declan Patton, attended several hard rock and heavy-metal concerts, taking careful note of the most popular head-banging techniques in the audience.

While head-banging generally refers to violent, rhythmic movement of the head, it takes various forms. At the concerts McIntosh and Patton attended, the "up-down" style — which looks like you're bobbing for apples, long hair covering your face at all times — trumped the others. The "circular swing" (long locks swung around your head like a mini tornado) the "full body" (hair whipped up and down in exaggerated fashion) and the "side-to-side" (looks like you're shaking your head in disagreement) didn't get as much representation. After rockin' out with Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row and Whitesnake, among others, McIntosh and Patton got down to business. Based on the popularity of the up-down style of head-banging at the concerts, and the average tempo of 11 songs deemed the best for head-banging by a minion of local musicians, the scientists developed a mathematical model of how violently you'd have to shake your noodle to hurt yourself. Their conclusion? Head-banging to a song with a tempo of 146 beats per minute can make you dazed and confused (read: give you a headache and make you dizzy) if you're rotating your head by more than 75 degrees.

For the record, popular heavy metal often has a tempo of 180 beats per minute, according to the study. So head-banging to faster tunes with even more range of motion (say, 120 degrees) could cause a neck injury — mainly pain, McIntosh and Patton conclude.

"If the tempo is increased, you have to accelerate more to keep in time," McIntosh tells us. "You've got a limit to that range of motion. The more you're going through it, the higher the risk of mild brain injury or some sort of neck injury."

The tongue-and-cheekiness of the research aside, musicians have actually hurt themselves head-banging. A 15-year-old drummer in his neighborhood band suffered an aneurysm in his cervical vertebral artery, according to a 1991 case report in the journal Pediatric Neurosurgery, and Evanescence guitarist Terry Balsamo had a stroke three years ago that his docs blamed on his head-banging tendencies.

Worried? Try to rotate your neck at no more than 45 degrees. Alternatively, consider slower tempo, easy-listening music instead — or a neck brace, McIntosh and Patton suggest.

"You could have a stylish neck brace built into a leather jacket," McIntosh quips. "We didn’t take into account whether if someone had a poodle-style hairdo, that that might dampen some of the acceleration, or if dreadlocks make it worse. The next step would be to look at the effects of some of these hairstyles."
