Slipknot played to 850 lucky maggots last night at a tiny venue in the middle of the California desert called Pappy & Harriet's.
The gig marked Slipknot's first show of 2024, their first with their new drummer, and the debut of their new masks — which call back to the 1999 era that Slipknot are celebrating the 25th anniversary of for the rest of this year.
The setlist leaned heavy on the oldies from 'Slipknot' and 'Iowa,' and given the small stage and the red jumpsuits they were donning, it genuinely looked like a Slipknot show from back in the late Nineties.

Cathartic black metal outfit GAEREA have just released their new single and music video "World Ablaze".

The band comments: ""World Ablaze" tells a story of a man who has lived all his life inside a cage, knowing one day he will be set free and experience the world with its true colours.
Unfortunately he also knows that day will be his last hours alive. It is a song about desire, hope and freedom. A dance between life and death, hope and despair."

The video was recorded by the great Grupa13, distinguished for working with giants like Behemoth, Arch Enemy, Dark Funeral.

Metal Archives Bans AI-Generated Music

As music created by artificial intelligence continues to rise, so does the rightful push back by actual human artists who are putting in the work (and getting ripped off by having their creations used as a learning tool for AI). The latest to stand up to AI music is the much-beloved Metal Archives website, who have issued a statement saying they're banning any AI metal from being listed on their site.

"Recently, there has been a noticeable uptick in the number of bands being submitted to the site which have AI generated music," wrote Metal Archives administrator Derigin. "We want to make it clear what our position is on these bands, and how we plan to move forward in assessing them.

"It went without saying, at least up until now, that when we imagined growing the largest and most complete database of metal music, part of that vision was the preservation of art and human expression through music. Until AI, that was a given. The music described on the site is, in some way, played, programmed, and composed by a human being. That still remains an important criterion for us, and it is our belief that AI generated music does not satisfy that requirement.

"With the above in mind, we won't be accepting bands with AI generated albums, and we will scrutinize more thoroughly submissions suspected of having AI generated music.

"For those users submitting bands, if you have a band suspected of having AI generated music, we may call upon you to provide evidence to prove otherwise, whether it's behind-the-scenes material, statements from the band or its label, evidence the band played live, promotional material showing the band is genuine, and so on. The more evidence we have to show that such a band is real, and its music composed by a human being, the better. Our goal isn't to make this harder on you, or anyone for that matter, but we do want to stay true to our vision for the site.

"This policy isn't perfect and is a work-in-progress which may evolve over time. We know there will be some bands with AI generated music mistakenly added to the site, and we also know mistakes can be made and bands without AI generated material may be flagged for having AI generated music. With your help, we hope to avoid this as much as possible."

Someone ought to tell that one dude from Hour Of Penance. It'll be interesting to see how this extends to AI-generated artwork as well, considering the use from high-profile bands like Deicide and Pestilence in recent months.

ZORNHEYM - ANNONCE THE NEW DRUMMER QUAL!

Sweden's symphonic extreme metallers ZORNHEYM have just announced that they parted ways with drummer Joakim Steven and announced their new drummer Qual!

The band comments "Joakim Steven has been very busy performing live with “Ghostkid” for the last few years, and with our new album in the works and several gigs in the future we are saddened to face the reality that Steve needs to be released from the asylum so he can focus on “Ghost Kid”. If you are into Steve’s playing then fear not since he has recorded all the drum parts for the next, as yet untitled, Zornheym opus 3. There is no bad blood between Steve and Zornheym, but unfortunately there simply is not enough time and too many conflicting schedules for both bands to share him."

Let us introduce you to the new drummer of ZORNHEYM Kim Arnell aka, Qual! Hailing from Linköping where he has played in bands like Prime Creation, Morifade and Nephenzy.

Qual comments: ”I‘m extremely happy and proud to be a part of Zornheym and their crazy world.
I have always been a fan of their cool mix of extreme metal, symphonic elements, good songwriting, and Bendler’s fantastic voice.
And of course the whole Zornheym concept.
I’d like to say a huge thanks to Zorn, Bendler, and Scucca for believing in me and taking me on this journey. And to all inmates of Zornheym, see you at the shows"

Zorn comments: “It felt natural with Qual right from the start! Filling the drum throne after both Angst and Steve is not an easy thing but he does a great job.”

First show with Qual will be at METAL THEATRE FESTIVAL 2024 in Kalmar, Sweden on the 5-6 of July.
