Late summer summary
New
So, summer holiday's over and it's time to get back to business. I've just sent the vocal work for the Thorns 2 album over to Erik Ljunggren, so now the next step is to prepare the project files for mix over at his studio in Oslo. After the preparations are done, we'll book time with Mike Hartung in his studio, also in Oslo, to do the mixing.
Additionally, I've just sent a package of photos, lyrics, and music to Zbigniew Bielak in order for him to start working on the cover art for the album. I'm excited to see how we can cooperate and make an epic album cover.
I am also planning a trip to Oslo mid September to meet up with old and new Thorns band members. For the current band members I will bring the material I have for Thorns 3 album so we can start brainstorming on the songs and already begin the process of making the third album.
This weekend, 24th to 27th of August, I had Dev Gohil visiting Trondheim and I tried to give him an eventful time. We visited the famous Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen) which is the cathedral pictured on Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas cover. Later we went to Whoredom Rife's new rehearsal place and got to hear them play some songs, and afterwards we hung out with Vegar (V. Eindride) and discussed black metal as well as music in general.
The following Monday we drove to visit Slagmaur in Fosen, a peninsula north of Trondheim. We went to see their new studio, where Doedsadmiral of Nordjevel and myself recorded some vocals for Slagmaur's coming album.
The last adventure Dev and I managed to do before he left was to visit Rockheim, the national museum for pop and rock located in Trondheim. Dev got to see the recreation of Mayhem's old rehearsal space that used to be in a hen house (Hønsehuset). Although far from finished, we were very fortunate to see the room as well as some layout drafts of the coming Black Metal exhibition "Dårlig stemning - Lyden av følelser i norsk svartmetall" (literal translation "Bad Vibes - The sound of feelings in Norwegian black metal"). This exhibition is being moved from the National library in Oslo and is going to open in Rockheim on Friday the 13th (as is appropriate) in September.
Tomorrow I will go back to Rockheim to do a podcast interview where we will discuss the prosess of song writing and my take on it.
