Norwegian black metllers SATYRICON have always pushed boundaries and never conformed to what was "expected". That mindset continues to this day, as they announce a very special, exclusive show on September 8 at Oslo's Norwegian National Opera House, where they will perform together with Norway's 55-strong National Opera Chorus.

The special event is part of the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, and fans of both SATYRICON and the National Opera Chorus can look forward to a very unique and exciting evening, which coincides with the worldwide release of SATYRICON's ninth studio album, which can now be confirmed to be self-titled.

Commented SATYRICON frontman Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven: "SATYRICON excels as a band, the bigger the platform is. In Norway, there is no greater stage than the main hall of our new Opera House. There is nowhere better suited to provide the dynamics, power and authenticity to such an occasion than the Opera Choir and SATYRICON. To us, there is no better way to celebrate with our fans that we are back with our first album in five years. We are also excited to have a couple of special musical friends come and play their part as well. Ladies and gentlemen — welcome!"

The Opera Chorus' lead conductor, David Maiwald, adds: "Mixing different musical expressions is always exciting. When the internationally acclaimed black metal band SATYRICON meets the voluminous voices of the Norwegian National Opera Chorus, we expect a powerful and monumental result, rich in innovative surprises."

"Satyricon" will feature a guest appearance by Sivert Høyem, the Norwegian singer best known as the vocalist of the rock band MADRUGADA.

Speaking to AOL's Noisecreep at this year's Inferno festival, Satyr stated about SATYRICON's upcoming album: "To me, it sounds very authentic, it's organic-sounding. And in this digital age where music is mostly played through computers, a lot of that analog vibe gets lost in translation when you play music through medias like that, but I still wanna do it because there's nothing quite like it. To me, it just makes everything sound the way it's supposed to sound — it's dynamical; the music is alive, it's not overly compressed, the levels are not pushed. So, musically speaking, it's a very atmospheric record… This record is full of life. There are a lot of surprises here, but I think it's gonna be a record that's gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future."

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum!

As of today, we’d like to inform our fans and followers that AVA INFERI is officially over.

The decision was made by myself and Carmen some time ago now and as one can imagine, it has been a multitude of mixed feelings & emotions involved, but then again, what must be done...

To some it may seem a tad ironic giving up when things start to happen for real (record sales, show offers, general interest has steadily increased) but as of now there is simply no will and interest in pursuing this path any further. It is important to follow one’s intuition, hence our joint and final decision on this matter.

To put it short: the spiritual heaviness & the (occasional) negativity involved, the bad luck and obstacles that seemed to follow every step we took, the corner we closed ourselves in musically and conceptually etc. belongs to a different era for us. We simply need to break out and get the joy and inspiration back into our music.

I still have the song skeletons for the 5th (double?) album in my hard drive though (about 30+, some done, some half-done songs) and maybe, just maybe in the future we will make these available (stranger things have happened). However we do not encourage anyone to hold their breath. The decision is as close to final as one can get.

We want to thank our past and present band members, session members, Season of Mist, Twilight13 Media, NM Design and everyone we’ve worked with and/or connected with over the years. Much appreciated! And to our followers: You all helped making these 8 years a "different" pleasure. Thank you so much!

We have 1 song left in our sleeve though: a Fado-inspired song sung in Portuguese entitled "Ao Teu Lado", which you will get to hear some time in the near future. Watch out for that one!

On a side note I can reveal that Carmen and myself will appear in a new project in due time, and be sure things are being prepared for it. However, this statement belongs to AI and AI only so more on the new path through a different channel at a more appropriate time.

Thanks and see you all around,

Rune & Carmen (RIP Ava Inferi, 2005-2013)

Carcass Sign to Nuclear Blast, Set to Release First Album in 18 Years, Surgical Steel, in Fall

"Re-formed British extreme-metal legends Carcass have signed to Nuclear Blast records for the world excluding Japan. Surgical Steel, the band’s first studio release since their 1996 LP, Swansong, was produced by Colin Richardson (Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Accept, Exodus, Testament). Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist-vocalist Jeff Walker in the band’s current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (Aborted, Trigger the Bloodshed) and guitarist Ben Ash (Pig Iron, Desolation, Liquefied Skeleton). Expect some guest vocals from original drummer Ken Owen as well, when Surgical Steel is released this fall world-wide.

Carcass has released the following statement regarding their new found partners: “We are pleased to announce that we have found the perfect home for Surgical Steel, the first Carcass album for, what, 18 years?! We’ve inked a deal with Nuclear Blast for our new baby. We have to thank Markus Staiger for his enthusiasm and belief in what he heard, but mostly his ability to take advantage of Jeff with a bad hangover when he visited the office in Stuttgart to let him be the first to hear the rough mixes. Nuclear Blast has managed to secure this release despite interest from all the main players in what remains of the metal ‘music industry.’

“We’re also looking forward to working with our pals in the U.S. office, who have done favors for us behind the scenes over the last few years. On a personal note, Jeff looks forward to his and label manager Gerardo Martinez’ friendship to come crashing down in flames and tears in a few months.

“As long as we don’t mention ‘the war,’ we think we’re going to do just fine with our new teutonic home!”

Commented Nuclear Blast owner and founder Markus Staiger: “One of my all-time favorite U.K. metal bands signed recently to Nuclear Blast—it feels like a dream come true. When Jeff Walker let me listen to the new record I knew immediately that Carcass made one of their best albums ever! It is a perfect mixture of Heartwork and Necroticism with a massive production to boot. The album is without a doubt just as perfect and lethal as surgical steel itself, and exactly what both old and new fans have waited for eagerly all of these years!
I am very proud to say, Carcass—welcome to the Nuclear family. It is an honor to work with this legendary metal band.”"
